How did you find your significant other?

How did you find your significant other?

Many of us have single friends... In an effort to not have a "3rd wheel", where have you found a match for them? Or possibly simpler, where/how did you and your significant other meet?

Lisa and Mitch said on Wednesday, January 14, 2009
Most of our single friends are guys. We usually look for matches for them when we are out with them. If we find any prospects, we give a nudge. :) We actually went to school together but didn't start dating until afterward. (Meeting in school might be part of the reason we don't know where to find dates.) Excited to hear some ideas though!

We've outgrown most of our single friends. We just prefer to hang out with couples, preferably married but not necessary. We don't "set up" anyone anymore. That's never really worked out. As for us, we met at a youth softball tournament I was running. Julie's daughters were on one of the teams I invited. While I was umpiring behind home plate, her eldest daughter was the catcher. It was really hot and she kept throwing her mask off. I'd clean it off before handing it back to her and I guess it caught Julie's attention. She'll say it was my butt so who am I to argue with that one. Anyways, that was in 1994 and we've been together since.

we met at a recording studio in jamaica,we've grown from stage to stage, takin it one day at a time...now we're married, and a beautiful baby boy that has filled our lives with joy.
but we kinda got tired of the same activities, and so we think hooking up with other couples would reshape our relationship.

We met through a mutual friend at their band's show in Oct. '07. Our first date was in Nov.'07 and became engaged in May '08, 2 weeks after our 6 month anniv. We got married November 1st, 2008, one week before our 1 year anniv. We live near most of his friends and they are all either single or have complicated relationships that just cause drama. Her friends are all mostly single and don't live close-by. We are happily a drama free couple that is just laid back, enjoy having fun, and looking forward to hopefully meeting another couple or two to have fun with and develop a friendship!!

Well a friend called me and said you have to come down here and hear this band ,you will just love this band. So I put my makeup on and a very nice dress and went down and listened and danced and thats how we got started and it was a friend ship first. But it was great to meet a really man that treated me like a lady.

Sue and Dick said on Monday, April 06, 2009
We met online and Dick moved to MN from WI to be with me. We hit it off right away and have been married for almost 3 years. We get together with Sue's family quite a bit, and co-workers on occasion, but haven't really found a group of friends of our own. Most people we know already are in a group of friends, or they are single, which is ok but more difficult to do things with.

We're very easy going and like to laugh and have fun. We're hoping to find some friends here who like the same thing....

We meet through work. I worked for a slot machine distributor in MN and Bobby worked for one of the companies we distributed for out of Vegas. The owner of Bobby's company and the owner of mine married. Then the company I worked for was acquired by Bobby's company. So they offered Bobby a transfer to MN and he took it...the rest is history. Yes, we did work together for about the first 5 years of our marriage. One thing we learned from that, never put all your eggs in one basket!!

Simple. I hired her as a paralegal for the firm I was at and without trying we became great friends.

Renee, that is hilarious!

Bob and I met through an online dating service. I had actually disabled my account because I was not happy with the guys I was finding on there. They all seemed so desperate and ...well...you all know! At the urging of my daughter I gave it one more try and with in hours of reopening my account there he was. We talked through e-mails for about a week or so and then we met face to face. We hit it off immediately and are now planning an Oct. 2009 wedding! We joined Couples in hopes of finding friends.

Jen and I actually met twice, once back in high school over a summer. She went her way and got married to some one else. Thankfully for me that didn't work out. I had a long term relationship of my own which resulted in my oldest daughter. That also did not work out. Well, 11 years later on thanksgiving Jen called me and we have been together ever since. That was back in 1998.

We met at a fraternity party on campus during my junior year at Penn. Jason had already graduated and came back to visit his friends. One of my good friends "warned" me about Jason, but clearly, I wasn't listening. We dated for 6 years before tying the knot. This June will be our 7th year wedding anniversary.

John and I met through Match.com. We were together for 3 years and then engaged for a year and just had our 3rd anniversary. We have recently moved to MN and look forward to meeting other couples and hopefully hanging out, bbqs, that sort of thing.

Brad and I met online also. We met on mate1.com I think it was a decent site and as it turned out we both were on three other same sites. His family also has a cabin nearby where I had grown up (small small hick town in southern minnesota). I swear it was destiny we were supposed to meet at some point or another. We'd talked online for about a week before I said "this is kinda pointless do you just wanna meet me already?!" and him being as laid back as he is said "sure i guess that wouldn't hurt anything" and we've been together for about two and a half years and are planning a March 2010 wedding. Its just uncanny how we fell in line together we both have said on numerous occations that it feels like we've been together for a long time because we just work so well together. As far as single friends, we only have a few but none that really are interested in long term relationships like we are so it doesn't usually pay off to try and find them anyone because it doesnt work out in the end anyway. So we've stopped trying to help.

Jeremy and I met in High School. We both worked at Mustang's. He called me up right before I turned 16 years old at the time I was dating someone...Jeremy asked me out and I turned him down. One thing lead to another couple days later I was calling him asking him if he wanted to come over to my house and watch a movie on New Year Eve. Jan 3rd he asked me out and we have been together ever since. 4 years later we got married on Feb 17th its been 8 years of being married 12 years together in all.

We smiled at each other in a club- ended up talking...another woman who liked him gave him a hug, wrote her # on his hand. As the evening wore on we discovered we had alot in common! We played frisbee golf the next day and were surprised to see each other in a Spanish class-we were both taking generals in college at the time. The teacher always chose him to be in front of the class helping to do the cherades in Spanish, what a class clown he was. It all fell into place from there, over to his place then to class then out afterwards. Wow that was years ago! We're definitely two peas in a pod!!

I met my husband in a club. I always thought that sounded so cheesy, but it worked for me. :) Steve was based at Hurlburt Airforce Base in the Panhandle of Florida at the time and I was in school at University of TN at Chattanooga living at home. I ended up driving the 7 hour drive almost every weekend! I absolutely enjoyed it! We married after one year. He spent 7 years in the military, then got out and we settled back in the panhandle of Florida.

what do you like to do for fun.

Ashley and Steve said on Sunday, May 31, 2009
We love to travel! :) We go on one good trip a year. We love to play cards and watch movies. We are pretty open minded and are willing to try new things. Steve loves motocross, but after so many injuries - it limits him on his bike. I am a teacher and love the summers so that I can reset myself. Once summer hits, we are much more flexible with time.

Well to be honest with you it's a sad place to have met but we were both working for McDonalds here in Hibbing,MN he was a manager and i was just a regular worker, but one day when i went to work we were doing this thing to deal with shrek the 3rd coming out and well, one of our workers had to dress in a shrek costume and as i was coming into work that day, i had this "shrek" come up to me and well try to scare me more or less, you know, at first i just shook it off you know, some wierdo dresed up as shrek but then for some reason, ijust started looking back... a few times actually, then just as i was sitting in the break room and it came about the time to clock in, he comes in there, sits down, takes the mask (i guess you could call it)... off and there i saw him for the first time, and you know how some people say for that certain someone, it's like time stops and you two are the only who exsist... well that would have to be how i felt at that moment. and from that day on instead of being a morning manager he was being trained for nights... (which is when i worked) and we really started getting to know each other, and then it went from there.......I know if you look at our profile and think way to big of an age diff. well you may think so but i say, love has no bounds, and age doesn't matter...... This is a personal story from the hands of Antonette Callender

Our story is a lot like Sue & Dicks, we met online and moved away from the states we lived in to be near my daughter and havent really made friends yet. We have been together for 6 years. Were not married and probably wont get married but we feel like husband and wife and thats good enough for us. We are a happy couple and love to laugh and joke around.

Ann and Vic said on Thursday, August 06, 2009
Vic and I met through a family friend. It's kind of an ironic story- This family friend is a distant relative of mine and used to live next door to my husbands parents in russia. They still kept in touch when they moved to the states and he visited them in vegas a couple of years ago. As soon as he met my husband he decided to ,very successfully, play matchmaker. My husband called me and well...here we are today, sitting on the couch watching the daily show in our new house with our new puppy =)

Alex and I met on match.com. Neither of us was desperate for anything serious, but before we knew it we were spending all our time together. We celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary this month - how time flies!

We met through a silly ad I placed on Craigslist classifieds.... I was bored at work and was just looking for someone to pass the time and talk to. Well Rob emailed me right away and asked for my number since he wasn't too much into the email thing. After talking for a few hours via text we exchanged photos. At that point he asked me out to lunch. I was too nervous so I basically blew him off, but he was persistent and a few days later we met up at a bar. You could say the rest is history, because the only time we are apart is if one of us is traveling for work. We have been inserparable for 9 months now.....

We would love to find some couples to be friends with.... most of my friends are single and full of drama, where as Rob's friends are all married with kids and don't really feel like going out and doing things.

Natalie and Craig said on Sunday, January 24, 2010
I answered his ad for a roommate. We were both looking for a roommate for the summer only. He even helped me move my furniture. During the move he took off his shirt and my girlfriend pointed out his chest. I realized that there was more to him than the suit and tie that he wore. The same girlfriend started grilling him and told me that he had a crush on me since our first conversation over the phone. Apparently he liked that my voice always seemed to have a smile in it. I discounted that bit of information since I find my voice girlish and annoying. Also, being in a relationship was not in my graduating plans. So I kept the relationship on the "friends" level and concentrated on finishing my degree. Suffice it to say we had our first conversation in May, I moved in June, and we had our first kiss to Hootie and Blowfish on the livingroom couch in July.

We met on a dating site and his profile and initial email sat in my inbox for a week before I talked to him. I thought he looked like a 'trouble maker' in his picture and did not want to deal with high maintenance people or anyone who looked my idea of that. I eventually decided maybe judging the picture before meeting the person was kind of lame so I reached out to say hi and a year later we're are engaged!

Diane and Jay said on Sunday, July 11, 2010
We also met on a dating site and eventually were married. We are looking for couples who have intellectual abilities to keep conversations going on current events as well as maintain their specialized interests. That seem rare in the average everyday places; so here we are asking ... are there any couples out there who are seeking the same?
